In 2022, BAFTA leveled the playing field for the films competing for its highest honors through a process of long-listing followed by two rounds of voting—a move that encouraged members to consider a wider range of releases, and rewarded smaller indie gems that could otherwise have been overlooked (including After Love, whose compelling lead Joanna Scanlan took home the best-actress prize). However, it was also crucial in anointing frontrunners ahead of the Oscars, from Jane Campion and Ariana DeBose to Troy Kotsur. So, who will get their moment in the spotlight at this year’s ceremony and significantly boost their awards season chances?

Below, everything you need to know ahead of the BAFTAs 2023.

When are the 2023 BAFTAs?

The 2023 BAFTAs will be held on Sunday, February 19.

Where will the 2023 BAFTAs be held?

For the last six years, the BAFTAs have been held at the Royal Albert Hall, but the star-studded ceremony is now moving to a new home: the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall, which, the organization has said, will allow the 76th iteration of the event to be the “most ambitious and accessible night yet.”

What will the 2023 BAFTAs ceremony be like?

BAFTA has promised a “refreshed production and format” for 2023, and confirmed that, for the first time in its history, the night will end with the winners for the final four categories—best actor, best actress, best director, and best film—being announced live on air. (In the past, the full BAFTAs ceremony has been prerecorded on the same night and broadcast with a delay.) The organization added that “the production will be bolstered by two hosts, leading the ceremony from the auditorium and a new BAFTA Backstage Studio [that] will offer viewers a 360-degree viewing experience [with] interviews from past and present winners, nominees and presenters.”

So, who will host the 2023 BAFTAs?

On January 16, the organization revealed that Oscar and BAFTA nominee Richard E. Grant would host the ceremony, while presenter Alison Hammond would take the lead in the BAFTA Backstage Studio. Meanwhile, film critic Ali Plumb and broadcaster Vick Hope will host the red carpet show.

Who will perform at the 2023 BAFTAs?

In a statement, the organization noted that: “Following the success of last year’s iconic performance from Dame Shirley Bassey, inspired by 60 years of James Bond, music performances will feature throughout the broadcast from music newcomers and legends alike.” One artist who’s already been confirmed? Little Simz, who is due to perform a track from her fifth studio album, No Thank You.

Who is attending the 2023 BAFTAs?

BAFTA released a star-studded guest list on February 14, with CEO Jane Millichip stating that this year’s ceremony would be “one of our most well-attended on record.” Among the guests confirmed to appear at Royal Festival Hall? Ana de Armas, Angela Bassett, Austin Butler, Barry Keoghan, Baz Luhrmann, Bill Nighy, Brendan Fraser, Brendan Gleeson, Carey Mulligan, Cate Blanchett, Charlotte Wells, Colin Farrell, Danielle Deadwyler, Daryl McCormack, Dolly De Leon, Eddie Redmayne, Emma Thompson, Gina Prince-Bythewood, Guillermo Del Toro, Hong Chau, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ke Huy Quan, Kerry Condon, Martin McDonagh, Micheal Ward, Michelle Yeoh, Nan Goldin, Paul Mescal, Ruben Östlund, Sam Mendes, and Viola Davis.

Will the Prince and Princess of Wales attend the 2023 BAFTAs?

Yes. On February 10, Kensington Palace confirmed that the Prince and Princess of Wales would indeed be attending the BAFTAs ceremony and meeting both the night’s winners and the EE Rising Star Award nominees. In fact, this year’s event will have something of a royal theme. Helen Mirren, who won both an Oscar and a BAFTA for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II, will lead a tribute to Her Majesty during the ceremony as well. “The Queen occupies a unique place in BAFTA’s history, a close association that spanned 50 years,” the British Academy wrote in a statement. “Through her various patronages, The Queen was renowned for her support of the U.K.’s creative industries.”

How can I watch the 2023 BAFTAs?

In the U.K., the BAFTAs will be broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., local time. U.S. audiences can stream the show exclusively on BritBox.

When were the 2023 BAFTAs nominations announced?

Nominations for the BAFTA EE Rising Star Award were revealed on January 17, with the rest of the nods following on January 19.
